Voxels are the cubes which make up the world of Teardown and are the very base of the custom in-house game engine. Voxels are values on a three-dimensional grid taking the appearance of a cube. In simplified terms, Voxels are the three-dimensional version of pixels. The advantage of voxels is simplicity while still allowing for good graphics and wonderful gameplay. Each voxel is a cube with parameters of 10cm height, 10cm width and 10cm length.
Properties[]
There are a total of 13 different voxel materials, each having unique properties. The main properties that affect gameplay are buoyancy, strength and weight. For example: Wood can float, metal cannot. However, if heavy materials have a buoyant shape they will float independent from their weight. Light materials will always float no matter their shape, as long as they do not become too heavy due to having many of them in a single object. For voxel strength, check the tiers down below.
Voxel Tiers[]
Some voxels are stronger than others. They are classed as soft, medium, and hard.
Tier 1 (Extremely Soft)[]
These voxels can be destroyed by anything. The voxels that occupy this tier are grass, foliage, glass, wood, plastic, ice and unphysical materials(for example, the "grass" and snow on most maps).
Tier 2(Very Soft)[]
These voxels cannot be destroyed by the Blowtorch. The voxels that occupy this tier are dirt and plaster.
Tier 3 (Soft)[]
These voxels cannot be destroyed by the Sledge. The voxels that occupy this tier are weak metal.
Tier 4 (Medium)[]
These voxels cannot be destroyed by the Blowtorch or Sledge. The voxels that occupy this tier are brick and concrete.
Tier 5 (Hard)[]
These voxels can only be destroyed by explosives and firearms. The voxels that occupy this tier are hard metal and hard masonry.
Tier 6 (Very Hard)[]
These voxels can only be destroyed by explosives. The voxels that occupy this tier are hard metal.
Tier 7 (Extremely Hard)[]
These voxels cannot be destroyed. The voxels that occupy this tier are heavy metal, rock (props and grey bedrock) and blank voxboxes/voxagons.
