Tuxedo Labs is a Swedish game development studio based in Malmö founded by Dennis Gustafsson, known for developing Teardown.
History[]
Tuxedo Labs was created after Mediocre AB, a three person indie studio, was abandoned in 2017 when its two founding members, Dennis Gustafsson and Henrik Johansson, decided to work on their own projects due to pressures of the mobile gaming market.[1] Emil Bengtsson, the third and only non-founding member, eventually followed Dennis to Tuxedo Labs, where they began design work on Teardown.[2]
Early 2022[]
In April 2022, Dennis largely separated his personal website, blog and twitter account from the Tuxedo Labs accounts, opting to use the name Voxagon personally and keep the studio name as Tuxedo Labs.[3] A new website was created for Tuxedo Labs.[4]
Acquisition by Embracer Group[]
On 18 August 2022, the official Teardown twitter account announced that Tuxedo Labs would be acquired by Embracer Group.[5] The official press release notes that the transaction was completed in July.[6]
Quotes[]
From the website:
Tuxedo Labs is an tech-driven game studio in Malmö, Sweden. We are a small team of seasoned game developers creating innovative and unique games based on new technologies. Our mission is to push the limits in both game technology, interactivity and gameplay. To achieve that we create our own tools and game engines, like it used to be. Our first game Teardown is based on ground-breaking voxel technology combined with destruction physics and raytracing. Tuxedo Labs was founded by Dennis Gustafsson in 2019.
