Tools are the primary destructive items in Teardown, with most of them being utilized for destruction of enviroments. There are a total of 17 tools in Teardown, each being unlocked with their respective ranks. See the list below for a brief description of these items, and visit their respective articles to learn more.
- Note: tools are ordered in the 0.9 categories, and none of them can destroy indestructible materials such as the ground or heavy metal.
Tools by category[]
Unlimited (1)[]
Sledge[]
The Sledge tool is the first of the three starting tools unlocked in the Campaign. It functions as the main destructive tool up until the Shotgun is introduced. It can break weak materials such as wood, plaster, glass and etc. but cannot destroy stronger voxels such as brick, metal and concrete.
Spraycan[]
The Spray can is the second of the three starting tools. It functions as a painting tool, allowing players to mark their escape route. An important thing to note about the spray can: As the distance increases the spray can's spray of paint becomes less effective, covering a broader area but losing opacity.
Extinguisher[]
The Extinguisher is the last of the three starting tools. It functions as the only tool that can prevent the destruction of voxels by extinguishing fires. It is quite useful, as a fire alarm is present in many missions which can prematurely trigger the countdown if a fire grows too large.
Leaf Blower[]
The Leaf Blower is a handy tool. It generates a gust of wind which can be used to push objects around, boost fires and remove snow. Unlike all of the other tools in it's category, it is not unlocked at the start of the Campaign, instead being awarded to the Player at the Crackerjack rank.
Utility (2)[]
Blowtorch[]
The Blowtorch is the first unlock within the Campaign. It is a precision cutting tool and works as the player's first way of directly destroying stronger materials such as metal. It also serves a secondary purpose as a firestarter, being able to set flammable materials like wood and plastic alight. It is quite efficient at its job, having its ammo measured in seconds rather than whole numbers, letting you spend less resources to cut something than other tools.
Plank[]
The Planks are an important item. They are one of the two only constructive items in the game(if you don't count nitro). Planks can be used to build several different structures(be it supports, bridges or other things) and attach items together.
Cable[]
Cables, like the planks, are also an important tool, though their usefulness is limited to certain specific applications. Cables are useful for transporting heavy objects or suspending things in the air.
Firearms (3)[]
Shotgun[]
The Shotgun is the first ranged weapon unlock. It can be thought of as a direct upgrade to the Sledge - trading indefinite uses for vastly increased damage, along with the ability to destroy a majority of materials found in-game. It fires a rough, broad spray of pellets, each dealing less and less damage as the distance between them and their target increases.
Gun[]
The Gun is the second ranged unlock. It is a precision weapon, having the second highest effective range of any firearm in the game. The tradeoff for this capability is low ammo reserves and a weak damage output.
Hunting Rifle[]
The Hunting Rifle is the third ranged unlock. It is an extremely precise weapon; it has the highest effective range of any weapon in the game and it has a scope. Its raw damage output is comparable to that of the Gun, though it possesses the special ability to penetrate through multiple obstacles at once. It must be used wisely, as you have a measly 18 rounds at your disposal(once fully upgraded).
Explosives (4)[]
Pipe Bomb[]
The Pipe Bombs are the first explosive unlock in the Campaign. They are imprecise throwable explosives with a respectable damage output. Because the Pipe Bombs are explosive, only wholly indestructible materials cannot be damaged by them. While they may be imprecise, you can throw them quite far(just be mindful of the fuse)
Bomb[]
Bombs are the third most destructive tool in the Campaign. They are precise placeable explosives with a roughly 3-second countdown before exploding. This countdown is quite needed, as the Bombs are very powerful, creating giant holes/craters wherever they explode. They can only be placed upon what you can reach, however.
Rocket[]
The Rocket Launcher is the second destructive tool in the game. It is a very powerful weapon, shooting highly explosive rockets a fair distance. These rockets are quite slow and arc downwards heavily at longer distances. Aim them well, as the reserves aren't very deep.
Nitroglycerin[]
Nitroglycerin is the single most destructive tool in the entire game(without mods, of course). Nitro is a placeable explosive canister which can be attached to any surface. Unlike previous explosive unlocks, Nitro acts more defensively, as it doesn't have a fuse and only explodes if the canister is damaged. In exchange, Nitro is ludicrously powerful, taking out entire walls with one canister if fully upgraded. Even a non-upgraded canister explodes with the same force as a fully-upgraded Bomb.
Enhancements (5)[]
Enhancers add powerups to objects. The rocket booster for dynamic objects, the vehicle thruster for vehicles and BlueTide for the player.
Rocket Booster[]
Rocket Boosters are placeable thrusters. mostly useful for pushing dynamic objects and such. The thrust lasts for a short amount of time after which the booster becomes inert.
Vehicle Thruster[]
Vehicle Thrusters are placeable thrusters which can only be used on vehicles. Once put on a vehicle, the thruster is tied to the car's throttle and reverse inputs, adding extra speed and power. Unlike Rocket Boosters, Vehicle Thrusters have an infinite lifespan and will only cease to function once the thruster is damaged.
BlueTide[]
BlueTide is a useful powerup for the player, also being the last tool unlocked. It boosts the player's movement speed and jump height which can make completing a heist much easier.
Temporary Tools[]
Note: The Minigun is also available via the example mods menu. Bombs would also fall into this category as they are given to the player in The tower before they are unlocked.
These are tools which are temporarily given to the player in certain parts of the Campaign.
Minigun[]
The Minigun is a very powerful tool. It is a fully automatic ranged weapon with an incredible damage output. It appears several times in the Campaign, most notably during Covert Chaos.
Snowball[]
The Snowball is a temporary tool found at the player's hub after a certain point in part 2. It acts similar to the pipe bomb but instead of exploding it leaves a little bit a snow behind. The snow is identical to the snow that spawns naturally even down to it disappearing when you walk over it and disappearing when the Leaf Blower is used.
Camera[]
The Camera is used to take pictures of robots in the Roborazzi mission.
Official Mod Tools[]
These tools are immediately available via the example mods menu after installing the game.
Smokegun[]
The smokegun is an example mod tool. Firing the weapon while looking at any physical point will place a smoke emitter at said point, who's smoke output, gravity, color and duration can be configured.
Laser Gun[]
The laser gun is an example mod tool. It is yet another precision cutting tool, firing a powerful laser which can cut thought most materials. It is available via the Steam Workshop for 0.7 and before, or the mod menu for 0.8 and above.
DLC Tools[]
Art Vandals[]
Jackhammer[]
The jackhammer is an unlimited tool that can eat at small chunks of voxels when holding the left mouse button. It can destroy just about anything that isn't outright indestructible.
Cellphone[]
The cellphone acts as the computer for the Art Vandals expansion wherein the player can go through received emails to enter missions and read the story.
Newspaper Launcher[]
The newspaper launcher is a mission specific temporary tool used in Paper Girl to deliver papers to residents of Tilläggaryd.
Time Campers[]
Gunpowder Barrel[]
The gunpowder barrel can lay down a trail of gunpowder so that when it ignites it creates a trail of fire that crawls on the line of powder.
Blow Lamp[]
The blow lamp is a reskin of the blowtorch.
Rope[]
Rope is a reskin of cables.
Rifle[]
The rifle is a reskin of the hunting rifle.
Revolvers[]
The revolvers are dual pistols that can be shot in quick succession.
Dynamite[]
Dynamite is a reskin of the pipe bomb.
Dynamite Bundle[]
The dynamite bundle is a reskin of the bomb.
TNT[]
The TNT is a reskin of nitroglycerin.
Horse Punch[]
Horse Punch is a reskin of BlueTide. The name might be a reference to Bonk! Atomic Punch from Team Fortress 2
Obtaining[]
Tools can be acquired via the ranking system (see Ranks for more detail) in Teardown, with each rank up to Hot Shot awarding a new tool. Tools are delivered to the player's home in crates and can be picked up to get them.
