The Sledge, otherwise known as the Hammer, is a tool in Teardown that allows the player to swing and break down weak objects at a close range. It is one of the first tools unlocked by the Player, alongside the Extinguisher and the Spraycan. It does not have any upgrade options.
Description[]
The Sledge is the first item in the player's toolkit, being one of many destructive items the player can use to tear down new pathways from one objective to another. When swinging, nearby surfaces near the player's crosshair will shatter, and many of the voxels hit will be outright removed. With enough swings, a large destructible object can be reduced to nothing.
The greatest benefit of the sledge is how it can be used infinitely within a mission to alter many of the common forms of obstacles that would otherwise block a player's progression. This is much different compared to the other types of deconstruction tools, since they have a limited quantity of uses before being unusable by the player.
To counteract the ability of using the sledge indefinitely, there are several key materials that a swing from the sledge cannot destroy by itself. Stone materials such as brick many houses are made of, or the gray stone that underlays most of the game world are some of the most common, with metals being another resilient material that a sledge cannot break by itself.
