The Extinguisher is a tool in Teardown that launches an infinite spray of extinguishing foam in order to prevent the excessive spread of Fire. It is one of the first tools unlocked by the Player, alongside the Sledge and the Spraycan. It does not have any upgrade options.
Description[]
A red, regular extinguisher tool, the Extinguisher deals no damage to voxels, serving instead to limit the damage done through fire by extinguishing any flames that it is sprayed upon. The spray itself is light, able to be fired from quite a distance before slowly falling to the ground. Spraying directly onto fires is the best way to take them out however.
Fire is an uncommon threat for the player overall, dealing a minor amount of damage to the player if they are in contact with it, and being able to spread out to other flammable voxels if given the chance. The greatest sources of fire come from the Blowtorch, with explosive tools such as the Pipe Bomb also being able to randomly spark flammable objects upon detonation.
What gives the Extinguisher some credence as a tool within the arsenal is the presence of fire alarms in many missions. With too much active fire being produced, the mission will suddenly have the Security Chopper timer start and requires the player to begin their run prematurely. In the face of that risk, one can use fire to destroy many more voxels than what would otherwise be accomplished with a quick stream from the Blowtorch. As such, the Extinguisher can be used not only to quash any flames that do crop up, but also allow the player to play riskily and micromanage the blaze as it breaks down large objects without the fire alarms triggering.
Trivia[]
- When the player is in a area where shadows don't render, the particles from the fire extinguisher won't put out fires.
