The Castanet 500L GT is one of the many drivable Vehicles in Teardown. Its first appearance is on Villa Gordon.
Design[]
The Castanet 500L GT is heavily based upon the fourth-generation Cadillac Eldorado, with influences presumably taken from the car's Biarritz version. A significant portion of the car is directly based off the Eldorado, with a large chrome front bumper housing small fog lights and a huge mesh grille crawling up from the bottom to the large headlights, seemingly holding up the front bumper. The car is a convertible 2+2 coupe with a spacious grey interior and a large angled windshield on top of a long hood. Chrome trim is present on most parts of the vehicle such as the mirrors, the front end, the windshield, the interior etc.
The wheels of the car are very small and could also be mesh wheels, because in that era most cars had mesh wheels. No fuel cap is visible anywhere on the vehicle. The back of the car is dominated by the distinct(and large) rear tailfins of the Eldorado, which also house small lights on their ends. As said tailfins get bigger the rear of the car slopes downward, eventually ending in a chrome mesh fascia with a set of large, bulging taillights that glow pink. Strangely, no indicators are present on the vehicle. The Castanet has dual exhaust pipes, with smoke coming from some of the holes in the mesh fascia. The car is painted in a light pink color with a surplus of chrome trim lining the body.
Performance[]
As seen at Villa Gordon
The Castanet 500L GT has decent performance. The acceleration is mediocre, and the top speed is high, but the large size of the vehicle hampers turning ability. Some understeer is present but the car can still be launched into a drift without using the handbrake, thanks to the RWD powertrain. However, drifting is not as effective in this car as it is in others. The Castanet is not a good car offroad as its low ground clearance, long wheelbase and small wheels greatly reduce offroading capability.
Trivia[]
- The GT in the car's name is referring to it's class, which is a grand tourer. Grand tourers are built with both performance and luxury in mind, explaining the unusually good performance of the Castanet despite its age.
- In the Car Wash mission one of the available targets is a red Castanet.
- A Castanet won the 1989 Löckelle classic cars race. This winning car can be found hanging from cables in the gallery during the Insurance Fraud mission.
- On the Löckelle Teardown Services map there is a Castanet inside of the player's home. At the start of the game it begins as a rusty shell. Each completed mission slightly repairs it. By the end of Part One of the Campaign the car is fully repaired and can be driven.
